case.
The most memorable surgery I've been a part of was the repair of murmur on a very young Weimaraner. I believe she was younger than 4 months old at the time of surgery. She was rescued by a young man who happened to be walking past a breeder's yard when he spotted this baby looking sickly. The boy ended up adopting this pup after threatening the breeder, who would not heed warnings that this pup looked very ill. The kid brought her to us and we found a grade 4 murmur. My Dr had an associate who, it just so happened, loved new things and loved to study and learn. He volunteered to try and save this pup for free. He bought a special cardiac forcep that was small and shaped at just the exact angle this procedure was going to need. The icing on the cake was getting to, not only scrub in as I've done multiple times, but I got to feel the heart before and after the valve was fixed. It was amazing. The pup recovered so well that she lived to be an old fatty!!
That’s a great story!! Do you recall what the diagnosis was on the pet aside from a murmur?
@psnowRVT I don't. It was at least 10 plus years ago. I just remember how awesome it was that the Dr was willing to do it and, let me feel the heart before and after. It felt like cellophane with water under it in a vibration. So cool!
@shenanigan.pouliot Woah that is a great story, I especially like the part where you mentioned the surgery was of no cost ot the owner.
I believe that I mentioned my most memorable surgery I was a part of in one of the past weeks. It would have to be the memory I sheard of the brown lab with the clotting factor. That whole experience was one of the most nerve wracking and awesome in the sense that I saw my whole team in action. I asked the Dr if she remembered the type of clotting factor it was she told me it was hemophilia A.
That's cool. Clotting factors are scary, especially while needing a surgical
That’s a pretty rare diagnosis in hemopholia A. My question to you is, what are the more common types of bleeding disorders?
@psnowRVT One of the most common bleeding disorders are clotting protein disorders, hypofibrinogenemia, and deficiency of factor VII.
